Education Care Unit was just awarded Holcim Awards Next Generation Encouragement Prize 2008.
Congratulations for all our volunteers who have contributed their time and efforts for Education Care Unit.
Jury’s comments:
“This is literally a next generation project because it addresses children as the future stakeholders of our built environment. The creative and joyful efforts of the children in their classroom focus on urban issues that directly shape the conditions of their specifi c neighborhood and daily life. By developing their own “dream city” – a self-suffi cient urban settlement – in small groups, the children easily learn to understand the basics and principles of sustainable design and construction. Furthermore, they are introduced to systematic, multidisciplinary thinking and life cycle considerations. They also become strongly involved in team work and collective decision taking. Through all these valuable experiences the next generation acquires the sensitivity and the awareness to become responsible members of our future society. Although this initiative isn’t unique, the project deserves to be broadly acknowledged and strongly encouraged”.
